Film Archives of Montenegro was founded in 2000, primarily for
the purpose of gathering and preserving Montenegrin films as
well as the films by Montenegrin authors, i.e. the films
produced within Montenegro and about Montenegro. We also intend
to form a collection of the most significant world films. The
main activities of the cinematheque are gathering and preserving
films and supplementary film materials (documents, photographs,
posters, publicity materials, old items related to film etc).
The films of artistic, cultural, historical and scientific
importance are regularly shown to the citizens, and they offer
them the insight in the national as well as the world cultural
heritage. Film Archives of Montenegro is opened for all
researchers, scientists and students who deal with the history
and theory of film.
The oldest material in our collection dates to Balkan War I
(1912). Nevertheless, many films related to Montenegro are not
in our possession. Our goal is to gather those films in the
years to come. The cooperation with other archives in the region
as well as with the cinematheques across the world is of great
importance to this process.
In previous years, especially after the reestablishment of our
independence in 2006, we make significant efforts to create
necessary infrastructure for cinematography activities. As a new
institution, our cinematheque now needs significant funds for
the provision of technical equipment for its regular
functioning. Ministry of culture recently signed the contracts
for a new facility for our needs. New building of Film Archives
of Montenegro will stand in broad centre of Podgorica, the
capital of Montenegro. Works on our facility should be completed
during 2010. Within new cinematheque's building, a cinema with
around a hundred seats, depots, editing rooms, library, media
room, offices etc. are projected. But, we still miss projectors,
devices, laboratory, and people educated for cinematheque`s
tasks.
With limited resources and capacities, we are aware that we are
not capable to achieve our goals without serious international
expert and technical assistance. One of the first assumption for
it is that our cinematheque becomes a member of FIAF (Federation
Internationale des Archives du Film) and ACE (Association des
Cinematheques Europennes). |
